- Message the number once. Any message will do — for MYB, send the word Join to 848-469-4164.
- Save the number in your contacts. This is the step people skip.
- Open the Updates tab in WhatsApp. Their status appears there.
Why you have to save the number
WhatsApp only shows a status update between two people who have each other saved. Not one of you — both. If you have not saved them, or they have not saved you, the status simply never appears, and there is no error message to tell you why.
This catches almost everyone. People message a number, wait, see nothing, and assume they were not added. Usually they just never saved the contact.
If the status still is not showing
Check the obvious things in order. Have you saved their number, exactly as they gave it, with the country code? Have they saved yours? Is your Updates tab filtered? Have you muted them by accident — a muted status drops to the bottom of the list rather than disappearing.
And remember a status only lasts 24 hours. If they posted yesterday and you look today, there is nothing to see.

Do I have to save the number to see a status?
Yes. WhatsApp only shows status updates between people who have saved each other.
Does the other person have to save me back?
Yes. It works both ways, which is why some statuses never appear even after you have saved someone.
How long does a status last?
24 hours, then it disappears on its own.
Will joining a status fill up my chats?
No. Statuses live in the Updates tab, separate from your chats.

Delete the contact from your phone.
